We live in a world where we constantly place labels on everything, cloth, friends, schools, human…….
A world where we need to unnecessarily group people into categories (maybe to make ourselves feel better); Rich-Poor, Tall-Short, Black-white, Introvert-Extrovert, Smart-Stupid….Yada yada yada.
You may say labels are important…..heck your name is a label.
But NO!, names aren’t labels….it’s an identity.
Now that weve cleared that up, lets get on with the topic…lol
I was chatting with a close friend of mine yesterday about my next blog post and he said “but that’s not your style; I know you to be cool headed and calm and like to play it all right in your blog post”
And I told him that was my problem exactly, why label me based on a couple of posts, especially since you know me personally.
Why are we so obsessed with labels.
Why do we have to tick a box, what if i’m neither male nor female, what if i’m neither Gay nor straight…what if I want to be me? Has anyone ever considered that? *seriousface*
And no I don’t want you to create another box for me…I AM NOT OTHERS.
Yes, this is me venting about it.
Why do we need need to create more boxes to tick when we feel we have run out of options; Why can’t we just let things be as they truly are.
We label people “black or white”, yet we all have our individual shades of black or white; We have all shades of beauty. We label peoples personality, we even label their existence.
Everyone loves labels, we need to stop.
we need to be able to buy that bag we love not having to check the label to see if its Dior or Channel or Gucci!
We need to get to a point where we consciously try not to box people up. We need to not box ourselves up.
I know quite a few people who have heard wrong assumptions about themselves so many times that they actually start to believe it. Listen, the worst thing you can do is label yourself. Don’t make peoples opinion of you become your reality.
Be you, Learn you, Create you. You can evolve. Switch hobbies, experiment. Embrace your skin, sexuality, preferences and not have to apologize for it.
We need to move out of the box,
Think outta the box.
That’s the only way to foster creativity.
You are amazing….Love ASF
